Week 7 Bears vs Redskins

vs
14 - 17
Season Record: 4-3

Well it looks like Jay is back. And by that i mean the Jay Cutler of last year who threw more interceptions than any other quarterback in the league is back. He threw 4 interceptions in this one... sadly enough though that was not the only thing that was really bad in this game.

Negatives:
1. Interceptions. Come on Jay the interceptions just drive me nuts, it just really really hurts the team. I know its not just on the quarterback always for the blame on interceptions, and he doesn't have the total blame on these, but he sure has plenty of the blame. It was so frustrating to watch in the 2nd half when they had so so many chances to take this game but kept throwing INTs. One was returned for a TD. Don't throw that interception and the Bears win 14-10.

2. The Bears offense. Up until a couple minutes before the end of the first half the Bears offense had a total of -9 yards on offense. Yes that was a -9. They were moving backwards the entire first half until their last possession when they put together a nice looking drive to end the half with a TD. Then for most of the third and some in the fourth, the offense actually did pretty good. They moved the ball ok and got themselves in positions to score. If it were not for interceptions and fumbles, they would have scored 2 or 3 more times.

3. Jay Cutler. I know i already talked about him with the interceptions, but man i just worry about this guy. Sometimes he shows some good things, but so many times i'm just shaking my head at what he does.

4. Offensive line. During the first half the Redskins defense went everywhere they wanted to go. It just looked bad.

5. The Bears lost the game.

Positives:
1. Bears defense. The defense did pretty darn good in this game. Really only giving up one touchdown to the Redskins. One of the Redskins TD's came of an interception. The Bears defense shut the Redskins down in the second half. They could not do anything against the Bears defense. It was the Bears offense that was keeping the Redskins in the game. The Bears defense was what kept this game close. It would have been a blowout in the second half if not for good defense. Bears defense also got an interception return for a touchdown and another interception return for a touchdown that was overturned because the Redskins were called for a delay of game.

2. Bears are 4-3. Not a horrible record all things considered so far. If you look at all the teams in the league, there is no undefeated team and alot of teams have struggled as well. So the Bears technically are still in the mix...

3. The Bears should have won this game. Really they should have. This probably should go in the negatives section, but i wanted something else in the positives. I wish the Bears would challenge some of the plays that really make a big difference. Let me explain... the Bears challenged one play. It was a pass i believe to Earl Bennett and he ran all the way down and was ruled down at the one yard line. It looked at first like he might have reached over the goal line with the ball so the Bears called a challenge. Fine to call a challenge, but really even if you lose the challenge you still have the ball 1st and 10 at the 1 yard line.

There were 2 plays that i remember when the Bears did not challenge that would have been so much more important to challenge. They were plays when they turned the ball over when they were in the red-zone. That is pretty much taking at least 3 points if not 7 points on each possession. That would have been 6-14 points for the Bears.... which would have given them a win instead of a loss.

So here's the two plays. First was the play after the previous play the Bears challenged. They had the ball at the 1 yard line and Jay Cutler kept the ball and reached to the goal line and was stopped and finally the ball popped out and the Redskins recovered it. But on second look on the replays the ball just barely did cross the goal line before Jay was pushed back and before the fumble occurred. Even the tv announcers were saying it looked like it was probably a TD.
Second. One of Jays interceptions he threw in the Red Zone the guy caught the ball against the ground. It looked like an incomplete throw to me, and i believe would have been worth a challenge as well. Neither of these plays were challenged and they were so much more pivotal of a play that just about any other play in the game. It makes me so frustrated.

--------------------------------------------
I've read and heard alot of people who don't like Bears coach Lovie Smith, and they say he needs to go. I like Lovie though and i don't feel like any of this is on him. I feel like he's doing a good job, and i don't think a change at that position is going to help the Bears any.
I'm really disappointed in this loss and disappointed in the Bears. They haven't looked very good in too many different aspects of the game. But.... that said, they have a bye week this week and who knows.. maybe they can get stuff together and finish out the next half of the season doing more of the things i've seen that are promising, and less of that horrible play lately. Like i've said, they are still in a decent position standings wise in the NFL, if they can just take care of the ball and not be so darn inconsistent on offense.
At least this wasn't a 59-14 loss like the Broncos got handed to them this week.

I guess we'll see the Bears in 2 weeks. They play against the Buffalo Bills so i'm hoping they can get a good convincing win and figure some things out and get some confidence back. If they lose that game though... i don't even want to talk about that.

Game Highlights
